Coronavirus, Social Memory and Resilience. A competition for artistic research
Are you an artist who works in the Netherlands or do you have a strong relationship with The Netherlands? Then consider participating in the artistic research competition into the memory of epidemics and the role of art and artists in this. Three winners will each receive 5000 euros.
Utrecht University, the Centraal Museum and ZonMw want to provide artistic research into the social dynamics during and after an epidemic, such as the current COVID-19 crisis, through a public competition. Two urgent questions are put together:
1. How is illness perceived, documented and remembered by the society?
2. What is the role of art, artists and memory culture in moments of crisis?
Depending on the entries, one or more of these works may possibly become part of the permanent collection of the Centraal Museum and / or part of the exhibition “The Healthy City” in 2022.
All participants are asked for a PDF that visualizes and / or describes their work, and a 2-page CV in one PDF file to be sent to g.negron@uu.nl by September 30, 2020. The jury, consisting of curators, museum staff and historians, will select and inform the winners in October 2020.
