Marieke Hendriksen edited the special issue ‘Rethinking Performative Methods in the History of Science’ for Berichte zur Wissenschafte. In this special issue, historians and philosophers of science for whom performative methods play an important role in their work reflect on these questions from their own research and teaching practices. Despite their diverse objects and periods of study and the variety of disciplinary background of their authors, the pieces in this issue show common denominators: although they are by no means a complete survey of the use of performative methods in the history of science today, they offer us an impression of the insights they gain and the challenges they encounter in engaging with performative methods. This allows for critical reflection on when and how performative methods can and should be used, and when not. You can read the newest issue here.
